The Bay Area Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, Inc.
The Bay Area Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club held its first
meeting in March, 1995, shortly after the American Kennel Club
recognized the breed. The Bay Area Club membership has grown since
then to more than 65 people, including pet owners, breeders, and both
conformation and obedience exhibitors.
In 1995 and 1996, the BACKCSC helped the AKC national parent club for
Cavaliers, the American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, to hold
matches and judges seminars, most of which ran in conjunction with
the Del Valle Dog Club of Livermore's specialty and all-breed show
week-ends in October. These events helped lead to the approval of the
ACKCSC as an AKC licensed show giving club. The BACKCSC is very proud
to have been the host club for the ACKCSC's first Roving National
Specialty, which was held in Pleasanton in October 2000. BACKCSC in
2002 successfully completed two A-OA matches and has achieved
licensed status with AKC, our first Independent Specialty Show and
Trial was in October 2003.
In addition to club meetings and dog show activities, the BACKCSC
also upholds a Bay Area Cavalier tradition of an annual Fun Day for
Cavaliers and their owners, proceeds from which benefit Cavalier Rescue.
The speaker for BACKCSC's January meeting typically deal with puppy
development and health. In February, BACKCSC organized and decorated
the Cavalier area at Golden Gate Kennel Club's benched show for the
seventh year.
The BACKCSC supported the entries at the Nor-Cal Toy Dog Specialty
and the Santa Clara Valley Kennel Club shows later in February. Our
annual heart clinic and our CERF eye clinic is typically held in
June. More meetings, programs, and special events are planned for the
rest of the year, geared toward all aspects of life with Cavaliers,
including health issues, showing, breeding, and training, and
members' camaraderie. A list of the year's planned activities is on
the Events Page. For further
information, contact any of the officers or board members listed on
the Contacts Page.
